The latest venue to be opened by the 0760 nightclub chain (the telephone code for Zhongshan), this new temple of entertainment is THE new trendy nightclub. Music is of course at the heart of this establishment, which has chosen to equip its sound system entirely with APG in order to satisfy its demanding clientele.
Hong Libo, one of the club's founders, explains the history of the facility:
"When we refurbished our historic nightclub - the 0760 Club - in 2016, we trusted TR Audio with the AV integration. We were very impressed with their level of service on this project, so they naturally emerged as the best choice in the shortlist of candidates for the 0760 Plus AV integration. Huang Zhao, Managing Director of TR Audio, has over ten years' experience in the nightclub industry, and although TR Audio is a relatively young company, we knew they had the know-how to achieve what we wanted. Ben Huang, the owner of TR Audio, was also very committed to the project, with excellent availability and after-sales service."
Appointed as one of two official APG distributors in China in March 2017, TR Audio specialises in entertainment projects and fixed installations.
Ben Huang explains why he wanted to work with the APG brand:
"I've been working with the brand's products for a number of years, and as a long-established French manufacturer of professional loudspeakers, APG is making a remarkable breakthrough internationally, not least as a result of years of investment in R&D to optimise cutting-edge technologies in their products. APG's sound is pure and natural, and their performance across the entire sound spectrum is excellent. In my opinion, APG's products are second to none to the world's best brands in the pro audio industry.
Despite TR Audio's long history with Hong Libo, the latter nevertheless carried out extensive research to find the perfect sound for his new establishment, before returning to Huang Zhao, convinced that the APG brand offered the most appropriate solution.
"We were looking for a sound that was powerful and dynamic, but also clean, so that we could best reproduce the different variations and levels of electronic music. The 0760 Plus venue is over 11 metres high, and includes a number of structural challenges such as columns. We therefore needed a trusted supplier capable of providing consistent and homogeneous sound coverage to all four corners of the room. The sound design took 8 months to complete, but we are confident that we now have a unique sound quality.
An investment of 80 million yuan renminbi was required to transform this former garage into a luxury nightclub spanning two floors. It was in the 800m2 room on the ground floor that the APG audio system was installed by Ben Huang of TR Audio, who worked closely with Dominic Cho of ArcSource, the APG representative based in Hong Kong.
He explains: "Hong required a high specification for its audio design, and a box layout that didn't interfere with the light and picture show. Line Array systems are, in my view, a modern solution for nightclub projects, and APG offers a range of products perfectly placed to meet this type of scenario."
Located on either side of the main stage, 3.3m from the ground, the APG Uniline system provides the main sound distribution: this line array comprises 6 APG UL210 (for long range), 4 APG UL210D (medium range) and 4 bass speakers UL115B on either side. The Uniline range is characterised by its modularity, offering a wide range of configuration options to meet the specific needs of installations: For the 0760 Plus, it is used in extended mode, offering ideal performance for entertainment applications such as nightclubs. In addition to its advantages in terms of flexibility and modularity, the Uniline range offers an impressive size/power ratio, as well as excellent horizontal directivity, making it a discreet audio solution with no compromise on sound quality.
To add even more impactful low-frequency feedback, Ben has specified 9 APG subs in particular TB218S and 10 subs APG SB118spread across the dance floor. 15 APG coaxial loudspeakers DX15 processors cover the entire U-shaped VIP square on two stages, offering extended bandwidth, high precision and minimised distortion. Finally, 4 APG DMS485 amplifiers SA20:2 and 10 SA30:2 power the entire sound system.
Hong justifies his choice of a single brand for the entire sound system by explaining that "this allows for maximum efficiency, as the products have been designed and optimised to work in harmony".
The system also had to offer sufficient flexibility not only for for DJ sets, but also for music groups and live shows. It was also important to the end client that the sound system should cover the entire venue, so as to offer the same sound quality to the entire audience. This is what the APG system managed to achieve, while taking into account the aesthetic dimension sought by the end user.
Finally, an important consideration was the proximity of the club to residential areas. Avoiding noise pollution was of key importance, and Hong made a considerable investment in the architectural acoustics of the venue to ensure a high sound pressure level (SPL). Acoustic diffusion plates and insulation material were therefore also installed in the main room to prevent the build-up of sound that could have been caused by the irregular surfaces and
decorations. The management paid particular attention to this issue, avoiding in particular materials such as glass, mirrors and stainless steel in order to avoid sound rebound.
Hong is absolutely delighted with the end result:
